The Department offers bursaries, internships and learnerships. Below is a guideline for applicants.

PROCESSES/APPLICATION FOR BURSARIES:

- INTERNAL BURSARIES
The department has an approved Bursary Policy for the allocation of this department privilege. All staff may apply for a bursary. Recommendations are made by a constituted departmental bursary committee to the HOD for approval. Bursaries are approved based on the availability of a budget for the financial of application.

Officials are requested to first register with an Institution of Higher Learning because the documents from the institution will have to be attached to the application.

Successful candidates are being informed in writing and will be orientated around the bursary conditions and what is expected from them.
 
- SOCIAL WORKER SCHOLARSHIP
As part of the Retention Strategy and Initiative to address Critical and Scarce Skills in the Sector, the
Department of Social Development offers student who want to pursue a career in Social work a bursary/

PROCESSES / APPLICATION FOR INTERNSHIPS:
All graduates who are unemployed are requested to placed their details and CV’s on the Database for Unemployed graduates on the Eastern Cape Government’s Web site (www.ecprov.gov.za)

Directorates within the department will register the need with the HRD Unit, taking in consideration that they attached all the supporting documentation, namely:

An approved submission signed by the HOD
The Directorate’s vacancies (Recruitment plan)
The E.C. 4.1, indicating the availability of a budget.
Unemployed graduate will be recruited from the Data base mentioned in in par.1

PROCESSES / APPLICATION FOR LEARNERSHIPS:  
The department will advertise learnership based on the available budget
Learners / interested parties will apply to the department for the learnership
A selection of learners will take place based on recruitment selection processes
The learner will be informed when to come and complete the Learnership agreement, prescribed by the relevant SETA (Sectoral Education and Training Authority)
